La Señora Garza They were consistently thrown off in their line of questioning by basic answers, so I don't imagine they were prepared for anything other than stalling.

Incredibly, the company has finished this round of questioning of the first witness. There's now someone new on the stand...
That's it for day two's recap. Day 3 will come later today.

Questions I now have: where exactly is this line of questioning going? Still waiting for the clarity to materialize, so far Starbucks counsel sounds just as lost as me.

Counsel for the company has shown that they aren't able to ask a clear question, the ALJ going so far as to tell them to try again several times 😅

(wrapping up yesterdays recap)
The witness testified for about an hour in the morning, before more case law questions got asked. Lots of objections were raised and only some of them were resolved. It seems like this testimony will take awhile.

Witness enters... One question ask... Objection!... Witness asked to leave... Lawyers argue...

On repeat.

This has been the past few hours of this hearing.

TODAY: Workers at both union Starbucks in Astoria engaged in a simultaneous work stoppage to protest hours cuts and short-staffing.

Hours cuts are a union busting tactic – they mean lower pay, disqualification from benefits, more stress and longer wait times for customers.

The hearing for our national refusal to bargain complaint is going on again today. There's been less movement than yesterday, more legal jockeying and questions of case law, lots of breaks. Will keep you posted once again.

Last year Starbucks sued to make the union turn over messages with journalists.

Now, they're suing the union again.

While Starbucks has time to litigate against the union, they apparently don't have time for bargaining. Which is why they've received 105 NLRB complaints.

A Starbucks store manager told workers who were organizing that they would not be eligible for the company's new abortion travel benefit if they unionized. She said this was 'heartbreaking.'

An NLRB judge just ruled that this amounted to an illegal threat.

Corporate counsel thinks that asking for guaranteed minimum hours means that workers want to decide their own schedules, as if that would be a radical tragedy. Fun fact, many collective bargaining agreements do allow that!

The witness says Starbucks reps labeled testimony that partners provided during negotiation sessions as 'propaganda' and 'misinformation' and I think that says a lot.

A corporate lawyer trying to defend and excuse a man raising his voice and mocking baristas during bargaining is so Starbucks-core

Today, LaborLab filed a formal complaint against Grindr's hired union-busting firm: Heightened Solutions.

Why?

Grindr and Heightened Solutions are violating the law by HIDING how much the company is shelling out to the consultant BUST and COERCE GrindrUnited workers.

'for the record, the platform formerly known as Twitter is now called X'
This is now enshrined in the history of this case. I think we may need an expert on this 🤔

I like how a witness testified Starbucks spent an entire day bargaining over bargaining procedures before they would even agree to bargain. Typical corporate behavior surprises no one.

Witness says that Starbucks was unwilling to agree to regular set-time bargaining sessions that would enable workers to request time off in advance to attend.

How has Starbucks survived as a company if they struggle to understand contract negotiations? People have to be there.
