Unbelievable. Turns out Macmillan Publishers has been selling Mankiw’s Macroeconomics e-textbook with missing chapters, has known about the problem since the fall, and has done nothing the correct the issue. Basically just ripping off students. Appalling.

This shit needs to stop. These kids are getting terrible advice applying to 100+ colleges. They are wasting their own time and money, wasting scarce admissions resources, and taking admittance slots and scholarship money away from other applicants.

The mayor of Vancouver is insane. He expects a surge of hotel construction due to 7 soccer games. And an economic impact or advertising effect 'equivalent to 30 to 40 Super Bowls.'

I point out terrible economic impact analyses done by cheerleaders rather than real economists all of the time, so it is only fair that I acknowledge a nicely done report done to generate understanding rather than propaganda for the X-Games.

Experts are not divided on this topic. The “expert” paid by the Coyotes to come up with a big number came up with a big number. Everyone else thinks the losses are pretty small.

Nevada is NOT paying for the A's new stadium.

They are just allowing the A's to not pay the taxes every other company has to pay and then having the team to use those tax savings to pay for the stadium.

Glad we got that cleared up.

Check out my article at The Conversation about the failed stadium vote in KC last Tuesday.

Lots of handwringing over the past several days, but good for taxpayers in the end.

KC, MO average household income = $65,256
KC, MO poverty rate = 14.9%

Oakland average household income = $94,388
Oakland poverty rate = 13.2%

Yup, having teams vs. not having team has sure decimated Oakland.

Well, it looks like all of us can now be completely replaced. My Provost will be pleased with the cost savings.

I get to do several of my favorite things in this article: talk about women's soccer, hear from my great colleague Nola Agha, and drag on England's men's national team. It's a win, win, win!

Even economists like me who should know better buy into the lottery associations' framing of advertised jackpots. Just remember, this week's $1.23B jackpot is no such thing.

The big lotto games are dealing with serious 'jackpot fatigue.' This week's $1B Powerball jackpot attracting half the number of buyers as a similar jackpot back in October 2022.

As I note to Marketplace, you can't count on sportsbooks to regulate themselves. They make the majority of their money from gamblers that many people would think have a gambling problem.

Stadiums funded by gambling proceeds are being paid for mostly by poor people who can't afford to enjoy the opulent amenity-laden spaces that new venues are designed to provide.
