There have been more Redwing this April than in any other in the last 97 years. One yesterday tipped the scales at a massive 96.8g (anything over 90 is unusual) and another ringed on 7th April weighing 64.8g yesterday weighed in at 86.2g (a 33% increase in nine days).

There has been a nice little arrival overnight, with plenty of warblers in the trapping area including the first singing Grasshopper Warbler of the year. This male Pied Flycatcher was in one of the Heligolands

Stiff overnight northwesterlies coincided with much lower migrant numbers, but a calm day saw three Red Kite and a Hen Harrier drift over, the former matching the all-time daycount high. Red Kite have only been recorded in 11 previous years, including annually since 2015.
