The grounds of Dower House are said to be haunted by the ghost of Elizabeth Somerset who, at the age of 17 in 1760, died after falling from her horse on the estate.

As well as his beloved suspension bridge, Isambard Kingdom Brunel is said to haunt the nearby Leigh Woods. He manifests as a ghost wearing his trademark top hat.

The Clifton Suspension Bridge is rumoured to be haunted by the ghost of none other than Isambard Kindom Brunel. The legendary engineer is said to be seen inspecting his masterpiece.

Without wanting to ignite a “is Die Hard a Christmas movie?” style debate, my choice of film this evening is Donnie Darko - which is ABSOLUTELY a Halloween film - just not necessarily the first you may think of.

The Bristol Old Vic is haunted by two women who are named Sarah (former manager of the theatre, Sarah MacReady and actress Sarah Siddons) as well as a poltergeist named Richard, who enjoys being a nuisance by sabotaging rehearsals and performances.

Temple Church is said to be haunted by the ghost of a Knights Templar soldier. A Templar church once stood where the current church stands today and the area (and train station) Temple Meads takes its name from “Templar’s Meadow”.

Tyre marks which appear frequently in the A38 near Barrow Gurney Reservoir are said to be from cars skidding to avoid the ghost of a woman in white who appears on the road at night.

There is some evidence (though it is disputed) that French prisoners of the Napoleonic War were kept in the Redcliffe caves, wearing chains to prevent escape.
The sound of chains rattling has been reported throughout the cave complex.

The Gardiner Haskins building is home to a most unusual phenomenon.
Strange music, sounding as if it comes from a fairground organ has been heard around the site of the building.

BBC Broadcasting House on Whiteladies Road is believed to be haunted by a poltergeist.
The spectre is claimed to interfere with broadcasting devices and generally be a menace around the building (which dates back to the 1850s).
His activity is said to increase around Halloween.

Opened in 1999, Pero's Bridge is named after a slave who lived in what is now the Georgian House Museum. The huge horns are actually counterweights which allow the bridge to be raised.

Halloween party treats!

This worn and ancient statue at the bottom of Christmas Steps is of the Virgin Mary with baby Jesus. Legend has it that she was beheaded by Oliver Cromwell himself as a protest against idolatry - although there’s no evidence that this actually happened.

Of course it has to be Ghostwatch tonight!
