Before research, I had a few different jobs. I was hiking in Rocky Mountain last weekend and was reminded of one of them: I built these stairs with my trail crew!

9 years later and they are still looking good! I’m proud of my research papers but just as proud of this.

I just had a journal article desk rejected for plagiarism. I’m the first author (of 2) and we definitely didn’t plagiarize. They didn’t give any further details. Anyone else had this happen? There is no contact info and not sure how to proceed.

The weight of all the mass shootings in the U.S. is honestly really heavy. 3 that made national headlines in 2 days. It feels like everyone knows someone who’s been at the scene of a mass shooting. And yet… no action, the cycle continues. Incredibly sad.

Two unrelated peer review milestones for me in the last two days: (1) got invited to review my first paper that has open data and code. After tons of reviews, first time I don’t have to ask! 2) got invited to review my own paper.

Twitter does always seem to talk about academia vs industry, so just here to say there are a lot of awesome positions for scientists in government and non-profits too. I'm a research social scientist for the US federal gov and love getting to do research for the public good.
