Strips of larch which has succumbed to Phytophthora ramorum, a pathogen imported to Ireland on Rhododendron(!) through garden centres.

It was found on Rhododendron ponticum in the wild a year later, and by 2010 was observed on larch, rendering most varieties no longer viable.

Now that the bilberry is out in leaf the cattle are beginning to browse it nearly as keenly as wood rush. Calluna and broom also being nibbled.

Confor Was there any discussion of the ban on biomass heating in new build houses? (and the plan to ban it from all houses by 2045)

If discussions about rural land use change don't include forestry professionals who understand how to deliver multifunctional outcomes in lower elevation commercial plantations the land use discussions are dominated by Gatekeepers not keen to shift the dial.

Over the last few years, we’ve taken on two major sawmill building projects, using locally sourced timber throughout & with the main components constructed offsite. If you have a large commercial project in mind, please visit our sister company: makartimberengineering.co.uk

Excellent, great job... dense clusters (Anderson groups) work well most of the time for us too... no plastic, little or no need for herbicide. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

Domhnall Macsween Rhoda Meek The biomass ban issue gave a fascinating insight into this Q when the committee considered the proposals: the Convenor (rural Green MSP) asked the Minister (urban Green MSP) why he had ignored consultation responses calling for a rural exemption to the ban. He knew better.....

I think the peat depth in the research was only 7cm. Cause issue so different & difficult from “plant more trees” mantra it’s not being clearly explained.

Is this - language aside - an accurate summary of proceedings? If so, it raises serious questions about why Patrick Harvie rejected a rural exemption, when the consultation responses clearly called for one.

We've been asked by Caroline Ayre at Evolving Forests to see if our members would participate in a questionnaire about R&D. It's the stuff businesses do before buying a bit of kit etc.

Only takes 10 minutes, and Carolone says thanks in advance!

here's a quick Google search result: Only 9% of English new build homes were timber framed in 2019 in contrast to Scotland where this figure was 92%. There's no fire/wet rot epidemic in Scotland, and houses are insured. So what's the issue?
