Whilst two pairs of Common Terns look set to breed at Bank Island on the ‘improved’ island, it was nice to hear about a chick colour-ringed on the Wheldrake raft in 2021, which was present at RSPB Fairburn Ings and RSPB St Aidan’s recently - thanks to Steve Cribbin for the record/photo York Birding

I often have to leave these passerine flight calls unidentified, just a simple 'seep' like so many share. But this one I'm pretty confident was a Spotted flycatcher last night.
The 3 lower pitched calls are a ringed plover earlier in the night.

A relatively quiet morning on the Lower Wharfe near Ryther. No sign of yesterday's Osprey, but Buzzards, Red Kites, Sparrowhawks and Kestrels in evidence. Nice to see a Redshank lingering and a couple of Mandarin Ducks whizzed past. York Birding

Another early visit on a BBS square this morning SW of Norton. Most regular species seen but numbers quite thin on the ground.
Called at CHL, first L Egret I have seen there, seemed to be prospecting in trees within the heronry.
