This is the result of performative EDI work. BIPOC people are not part of a checklist to prove that people and institutions are diverse. Being anti-racist requires deep commitment to considering AND reshaping how the entire SYSTEM is supporting BIPOC students and scholars.

So we're not supposed to describe applicants as 'caring' and 'compassionate' because those words are too feminized. Frankly, this is what's wrong with academia! Can we celebrate stereotypically female traits instead? I'd rather mentor a compassionate student than a driven jerk.
