I recently had the pleasure of supporting the Royal Society of Tasmania as they embark on the mammoth task of restoring and conserving 900 pieces of 19th-century Tasmanian artwork. Preserving this heritage collection is important for future generations and our island's history.

It was a pleasure to welcome back staff, alumni & friends to mark 50 years of spatial sciences University of Tasmania The night was a celebration of fantastic work & research already achieved & how the University has a crucial role in shaping the future of spatial sciences locally & globally.

Today's announcement is genuinely humbling. While challenges lie ahead, including improving University of Tasmania student and staff experience, it it is privilege to serve a university community and work with outstanding colleagues to serve Tasmania, a place I love and call home.

In her new book launched last week, Hate Speech Against Women Online, Louise Richardson-Self describes the deeply disturbing reality of hate directed at women online. Louise gives us a vital systematic understanding that will enable a reimagining of safer online spaces for all.

Everyone remembers their favourite teacher. I recently spoke at the MERGA conference about a #maths teacher who completely changed in my trajectory in maths, and with it my future. He set a standard for teaching that still inspires me today.

I have been thinking today about my Launceston born grandmother who changed the trajectory of women in our family when she went to university 100 years ago and went onto a professional career. Her legacy of #BreakTheBias is still with us in my heart. #IWD2022

Today I invited our new University of Tasmania Catalyst students, who are part of our high achiever program, to join our project to make Tasmania a model for a #sustainable world. We believe in the power of students to change the world.
