I always thought Zoom was a video conferencing software not an unhinged data brokerage firm with no government oversight but their new ToS has proven me wrong 😂 There's not even an opt-out mechanism!

New College abolishing gender studies is epistemic injustice. This is an academic institution systemically excluding the study of gender identity from the "knowledge cannon." Gender does not exist in the margins of society and should not exist in the margins of education.

I am often really frustrated by the dilemma of getting consent at scale for my own research! Here's a reading list of papers that help me calibrate my own moral compass on the topic: grouplens.org/blog/reflectin… Shoutout to my labmate Matthew Zent for co-authoring it with me!

When you get quoted by one of your favorite scholars as "one of [their] favorite junior colleagues" ❤️ I love that epistemic injustice is being considered as we reckon with traditional HCI methodologies!

I'm having FOMO for #FAccT2024, but my PhD student Leah Ajmani is presenting work on a theory for data agency and consent for AI systems! It adapts Iris Young's theory of justice to correct modern missteps in AI systems. Read more and go see her talk! assets.super.so/2163f8be-d554-…
