So the Maha Govt counsel SG Tushar Mehta, lost no time in moving the SCI to stay the acquittal of Saibaba and others. Justice Chandrachud firmly refused stay. Listed it for 17th. The Indian State only wants to keep people incarcerated. Release Saibaba and others from Jail NOW.

Democracy being reclaimed in India! The wheel-chair bound Prof Saibaba should not have been in a prison cell all these years in the first place and so sad that one of his co-accused died in prison earlier this year. Congrats to the legal defence team Nihalsing and others.

While i am pleased with order directing release of #gnsaibaba , #hemmishra , #prashantrahi Mahesh tirki and Vijay tirki, i am sad that Pandu narote lost his life in jail few months back. Wish he was also there.

Just in: Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court has acquitted former Delhi University professor G N Saibaba and five others of all charges. The lower court had convicted them to life imprisonment under UAPA for their alleged Maoist links.

'This win could not have been possible without the lawyers and all those who supported Saibaba and me all these years. This was a long-drawn battle but I am happy that justice is finally done,' Vasantha, Saibaba's wife, told The Wire over a phone call.

This is the only case against prof Saibaba. So unless the state comes up with something new to harass him, Saibaba should be released as soon as the court's order is sent to Nagpur Central prison.
