.WKCR-FM NY reporters were audibly emotional on air as they reflect on news that the university has asked NYPD to stay on campus until May 17th.

the student reporters at WKCR asking “who is going to document this if we don’t stay?” is so…gosh. this is so brave of them. Ian, McKenna, Leon, Georgia, everyone else: you all have my whole heart. stay safe, young journalists.

All the students. We tell students that they belong on campus, that the university is their home. What a lesson for Columbia and Barnard students, and for students across the U.S., about just how far 'belonging' goes.

Seeing an institution turn to violence against its own students seems like a direct attack on everything we commit to as educators - starting with our care for students.

Why does @radiotaskforce exist and why is radio preservation so important? Because during every crisis, there's a WCKR doing important, non-gatekept reporting, call-in, or community organizing work. Sound history is political history.
