I've just read about the back channel blaming NATO's acceptance of Eastern European states and potentially πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦ as an understandable reason for Russian hostility, a key Putin's claim.
Alternatively, NATO could've left the region and now πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡¦ open to a 'negotiated solution.'
