This is simply embarrassing.
It is one thing to be tactical about Brexit. But to welcome Elphicke who dispensed some of the most shameful anti-migrant rhetoric with open arms is beyond cynical.

Really not a good look.

I so agree with your Provost. I’m hoping to listen carefully to your students protesting over Gaza but am told I’m not allowed to.

Widely distributed claims that the AfD is Germany's most popular party among voters under 30 are the result of methodological mistakes, says pollster Forsa. Its figures put the party a distant third, see below right. newsletter.forsa.de/view/1839/1816…

Since Simon Case says he joined the Garrick “to effect change from within”; & since reportedly none of the Garrick resignations has been accepted until the issue is resolved, I trust that the Cabinet Secretary’s as good as his word & will take the evening off to go & vote?

You have to admire the sheer chutzpah of a “ newspaper “ that leads with these stories after Saturday’s events. It’s like the Beijing Daily - in limbo until the party decides the line to take. Embarrassing for all journalists of whatever political hue.

Interesting to see the Labour shadow foreign secretary David Lammy respond positively to Macron’s comments in The Economist about 🇫🇷 reaching out to the 🇬🇧 on defence and security. And in French (again). You don’t get anything like this in most of the UK public debate

Remember the hue & cry over who could decently own a British newspaper (the Telegraph)? The same people oddly muted about a company which used criminal methods, destroyed the evidence and then lied about it

The gracious speeches from Richard Parker and Andy Street show politics as it’s best. Whatever your politics it’s clear they are two men who care deeply about the West Mids. Politics should be more like this please 🙏🏼 (compare with Susan Hall’s ungracious speech about Sadiq)

The Tories have waited too long to remove Sunak now. It would’ve looked ridiculous before these results & probably wouldn’t have changed anything but worth a shot. Now it’ll come across as incredibly arrogant. It is what it is. Accept it and rebuild.

Before Andy Street is declared a martyr to the Tory extremists might be worth recalling he was a cheerleader for the lettuce in the last leadership contest....

Narrative in past 24 hours has gone from 'Khan could lose' to 'Khan could squeak a win' and now the first results show a swing to Khan

Prediction: a lot of the breathless politicos on here and elsewhere about Hall being ‘really close’ are going to look pretty silly by end of today.

It is time for the BBC to change its stance on promoting Reform and Richard Tice at the expense of Liberal Democrats. Reform won virtually 0 seats, whilst Lib Dems won more seats than the Conservatives. Time we saw less of Reform on the news and Question Time etc.
