This is sad news. Frank was such a huge, fascinating, complex character. You didn’t have to always agree with him to enjoy working with him, and to be full of admiration for his passion, energy, humour, commitment and expertise. A true giant in his field.

At Frank’s core was the conviction that poverty was never to be accepted and could be ended. Clever, persistent and caring, he held that argument high across decades RIP

Mujtaba al-Sweikat was just 17 when he was arrested in Saudi Arabia at the airport. He was on his way to start his new life as a student in the US.

But 5 years ago today, Mujtaba was executed.

The five people who died in the Channel this morning knew that there was a very real risk of death when they set sail in a small boat. At least, the adults did. Death was, to use a word in the news a lot this morning, a 'deterrent'. It didn't work.

100% this. It’s also striking how Wilson had such powerful women in senior roles advising him (something a lot of male politicians of recent years could learn from). Obviously it’s the senior women who get attacked or defined by their relationships with a man.
