PBNI’s Aspire project delivered alongside partners including NIACRO works with marginalised young men at risk of criminality and the figures below demonstrate how the complexity of people we are working with is increasing.

This is why agreement by the NI Executive to extend the Executive Programme on Tackling Paramilitarism and Organised Crime yesterday is so important. The programme shines a light on the extent of harm done by these groups and provides evidence to show what works to combat it.

Dr. Aisling Swaine⁩ outlines the importance of a gendered analysis of paramilitary-related coercive control + gendered understandings and responses to threat. Hopefully this research will go some way to addressing the silence of girls and women’s experiences ⁦Foyle Family Justice Centre

With Foyle Women's Aid & Family Justice Centre, we launched research on paramilitary-related coercive control of women. Relying wholly on the courage of women to speak out, we hope the research will make change in their & their communities lives. Link: foylefamilyjusticecentre.org/when-you-know-…

🧵The v-high rts of poor mental health in adolescent girls is linked to misogyny & sexism. So it's good to finally see an Ending Violence against Women & Girls Strategy for NI, with delivery plan. The actions to change harmful attitudes/ behaviour of men & boys are fundamental.

In a busy news week, it’s vital this significant report by Dr. Aisling Swaine is not overlooked. The courage of those who told their stories is humbling. A difficult but critical read if we’re serious collectively about understanding what it takes to break cycles of linked violence.

No victim should ever be expected to negotiate with their abuser to gain their safety. We need to work consistently across Govt to strip these gangsters and gatekeepers of any status in the community. We must never legitimise coercive controllers as "community leaders".

An incredible amount of data captured by Ambulance Services that could be put to great use to identify need in communities, tackle inequalities & shape work in prevention. Tweet in thread touches on the challenges - a hill worth climbing if we recognise the potential.#999EMSRF24

Shocking & deeply upsetting. Nearly a third of female rapes reported to police involved girls aged 18 & under in yr to March. Data on female rape victims disclosed by 31/43 police forces in Eng & Wales show 1,458 girls aged 14 reported a rape in 2023/4, more than any other age gp
