For decades Michael Chew has advised and challenged (in a good way) early-career researchers from #LMICs - and continues to do so. He recently received special recognition from the Wellcome research community during a trip to Thailand. Well deserved, Michael!

🔬 New study in coastal Kenya reveals a diverse mix of human adenovirus species in diarrheal cases, missed detections with current PCR primers. Understanding this multi-species co-circulation is crucial for accurate diagnosis and targeted interventions. KEMRI-Wellcome Trust 🦠🧬

Today we commemorated #WorldHepatitisDay as we gathered to spread awareness around viral hepatitis and encouraged staff to get tested. Viral hepatitis causes 1.3 million deaths worldwide every year, and the number of deaths is rising. Get tested. Get treated. Get vaccinated.

Gabriel Oguda As Director, IDeAL I encourage you to apply. Our selection is merit based, but these are extremely competitive. We get >1000 applications for 20 or so positions. My big regret is all the amazing applicants we don't take. We are looking for funds to increase the numbers.
