Privileged to visit Ethiopia from 4.21 to 4.27 to deliver three public lectures, engage in workshops, and hold meetings in Addis Ababa and Mekelle with a range of civil society, academic, and other stakeholders on the benefits and challenges of transitional justice processes. 1/5

My interest in transitional justice is informed by experiences during the Liberian civil war. My scholarship in this area is motivated by lived experience, not only as an academic, or a practitioner. A consistent theme in my research has been centering affected communities. 2/5

During consultations, questions centered on the role of transitional justice in Ethiopia given ongoing conflicts + legacies of conflict, political constraints, as well as the culture of impunity. Several inquiries focused on whether Ethiopia was at a "transitional moment." 3/5

Discussions also focused on requirements and preconditions for engaging in a successful transitional justice process in Ethiopia. Other queries concerned victim centeredness & inclusivity, which are critical for the design & implementation of effective & credible processes. 4/5
