So if a female drinks more than 1 drink a day and they have risk factors for metabolic disease we call it MET-ALD. More than 3.5 drinks a day it’s ALD predominant. Reminder: there are 5 drinks in a standard bottle of wine Columbia Vagelos College of Physicians & Surgeons Alyson N. Fox, MD, MSCE journals.lww.com/hep/fulltext/9…

The structure of the psychosocial evaluation of donor is 🚫uniform among programs though domains assessed are consistent Psycho-social contraindications to living liver donation vary amongst the transplant programs Mental health follow-up of donor candidates is 🚫 standardized

Great results from the first clinical trial testing NALTREXONE vs placebo in alcohol-related cirrhosis, today at #TLM23 : 🔸Naltrexone is well tolerated 🔸It favors abstinence 🔸It reduces by 50% new onset decompensation AASLD #livertwitter #MedTwitter ILBS_University

Interesting discussion. I heard the concepts of incentive salience and conflicting motivations we often talk about in addiction to alcohol and drugs

Why two people that drink the same amount of alcohol, one develops cirrhosis and the other does not? In the GenomALC Consortium, we found 20 genetic variants that influence susceptibility to cirrhosis. t.ly/13NJ1 Hepatology Communications #livertwitter

Everybody talks about using the biomarker PEth to detect alcohol intake. But it's costly: $100-300. Instead, start doing a good motivational interviewing with the patient following the RULE method. It takes time and empathy, but it's much cheaper. #livertwitter #medX

Would you deny a therapy that increases 7-year survival from 13% to 64% ? If not, considering accepting EARLY liver TRANSPLANT for patients with Alcohol-related hepatitis. Great talk by Alexandre Louvet. #easlcongress #livertwitter Study of Alcohol-related LiVer disease in Europe EASL Education
