Solidarity with our coalition member after this awful attack on their office in Sunderland. CitizensAdvice do amazing work, helping millions of people in difficult circumstances every year.

⚠️Today's stats reveal that the number of renters facing homelessness continues to rise. ⚠️ Even when S21 evictions are abolished, renters could still face insecurity. We need longer protection, more notice, and financial support if we’re evicted for reasons beyond our control📢

“Renters cannot afford to wait much longer – we must see legislation brought forward soon to get a grip on the situation and address the renting crisis.” Our Director Tom Darling in The Standard on today's shocking homelessness statistics. standard.co.uk/news/politics/…

👍Good news: Rent increases are slowing down 👎Bad news: Rents are still going up by 8.6% a year, compared to 2.2% for overall inflation Rents are still extortionately high. There's no way renters should be expected to pay 8.6% more every year, just to stay in their home.

End unfair evictions! 🚨Watch our Chief Executive @BenTwomey tell BBC Breakfast about the problems facing renters and what must be done to fix them. 👇👇👇

Loose fire alarms, ants and black mould, threats of eviction - all too common experiences for renters. It is unacceptable for anyone to provide this standard of housing, let alone a sitting MP! bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

Good to see the PM call this out and Jas Athwal MP commit to make things right - but not all tenants can rely on a BBC news investigation to address disrepair. We need a strong Renters' Rights Bill to empower renters and hold negligent landlords to account. standard.co.uk/news/politics/…

🚨 personal news klaxon - today was my first day as the new public affairs and policy manager for Renters' Reform Coalition. i'm really excited to work with this brilliant coalition to deliver meaningful and much-needed reform for private sector tenants 🏘️

The RRC team are so sorry to hear the devastating news of Simon Mulling's passing - a fearless defender of tenants, a force for good and a lovely person. Our thoughts are with his family and friends - he'll be very missed.

.The Labour Party have promised to bring forward a #RentersRightsBill that will actually protect renters, starting with the welcome scrapping of #Section21. 🧵 on what else renters need the Bill to do. 1/6

With rumours the Renters' Rights Bill might be about to appear, we hope to see the legislation and wider reforms soon 👀 As RRC Director Tom Darling states, increased protections are "essential to ensure renters have genuine security in their homes". news.sky.com/story/labour-u…

Anthony's story is a grimly accurate illustration of the desperate need for reform. But it doesn’t have to be this way. That's why we're calling for no-fault evictions to be abolished and for a cap on in-tenancy rent increases. inews.co.uk/inews-lifestyl…

The govt's new Renters' Rights Bill will be unveiled today! We await the full details - and safeguards will be key to end unfair evictions - but as our director Tom Darling says, it's clear this is “a stronger piece of legislation" than the last attempt theguardian.com/money/article/…

While we welcome the details of the Renters' Rights Bill announced so far, there are still areas for improvement. As we say here, the draft law says little about one of the biggest issues facing renters – cost. We must end economic evictions as well. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

Very grateful for the opportunity to write for Guardian Opinion today on my experience of bidding wars, the government's renters rights bill, what's good and what's missing. Apologies to any upstanding letting agents for calling you all 'gormless'. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
