The child’s ability to use words to communicate isn't a necessity in the therapy space, unlike in many other areas of the child's life. As a result, the child doesn't feel pressure to talk and is able to fully immerse themselves in the play, and process their lived experiences.

Returning to school can provoke a range of emotions in children and young people. Some are excited, happy, and curious about the event, but others feel anxious, angry, or overwhelmed. All of these emotions are perfectly acceptable and should be acknowledged and validated.

Play is a vital part of childhood, that teaches children many things: how to navigate relationships, problem solving skills, coordination, emotional regulation, and creativity. When children miss out on play experiences they begin to struggle in other areas of development.

Spending time with children in non-directive play is one of the easiest ways to strengthen attachment bonds and build relationships. Non-directive play is where the adult lets the child take the lead and be in control. Limits are only set re: safety, when needed.

Observing children in play and entering into their games or activities, can tell you much about the child's inner world. Through their play, they demonstrate their understanding of relationships, lived experiences, and their ability to solve problems.

Teddy bears are often significant transitional objects in childhood. Helping children to feel safe and giving them comfort when their significant adults are not close by. We celebrate the longevity of a toy that has remained an important object for generations of children.
