It doesn’t get any less insane seeing this in print. It’s a book about *law*, for crying out loud. Written by somebody who - I have it on very good authority from a number of legitimately concerned citizens - isn’t even a real barrister. Happy Sunday to you all x

After a suggestion on Sunday that the Home Secretary would like to treat ‘extreme misogyny’ as terrorism, my latest piece for the The Spectator examines what this would mean in practice and whether legal or policy changes are needed. spectator.co.uk/article/is-a-n…

See that lots of people have suddenly become experts in criminal law & procedure. Well we are currently facing dire shortages of qualified criminal lawyers so look forward them coming to practice after years of training, professional qualifications & day to day practice.

For those asking, this is about as effective a legal strategy as a bank robber donning a t-shirt reading “I AM NOT DISHONESTLY APPROPRIATING PROPERTY BELONGING TO ANOTHER WITH THE INTENTION OF PERMANENTLY DEPRIVING THE OTHER OF IT.”

“I haven’t seen enough barristers who look like me – I’m changing that for others.” Thank you, Muscular Dystrophy UK, for interviewing me! Discussing access in the courts and my journey to the Bar was a cathartic experience.

Every day barristers and solicitors fiercely defend & underline the burden of proof and standard of proof at court. Matters not whether defending or prosecuting. We do it as part of our jobs, day in day out, holding the line for every case, every defendant. #FearNoOneDoRight

Another day, another internet full of accounts professing shock and dismay at our two-tier, totalitarian state in which you can’t even engage in a little bit of racist arson-y violent disorder without the old bill sticking their noses in. Some truth to throw in the mix:

With prisons full, sentences in a queue, people being released after serving 40%, prisons with dangerous inspection results & probation on their knees - it’s time, literally right now, for a brave government to start the conversation about what punishment can & should look like.

From here on in it’s shameless self-promotion time I’m afraid. Apologies. But I put a lot into this book, and I really want to help it reach its readers 👇

Me. I know. Defendants are informed of their right to a jury trial not only by their lawyers (who know a thing or two about trials), but also by the *court* during the first hearing. Those who pleaded guilty likely did so because they were guilty. You conspiracist fruitcakes.
