Bird of the day! After feeding on wasps for almout a week, between the gates of mistnets in Merkeskogen at Utsira. The Honey Buzzard finally got into the net, and was ringed under good conditions.

Thanks to Jim Dickson MP for Dartford 🌹 for joining us today & Terry for sharing his important bird ringing research - with over 88 birds documented in just one morning! The kind of mixed mosaic habitats found here is becoming a rarity, yet it's crucial to support rare flora & fauna πŸ•·β€οΈπŸ¦‹πŸ¦πŸŒΏ

Perfect timing for this gorgeous juvenile Red Footed Falcon to pop up on the reserve again as this evening is the Friends of Elmley late closing. KOS

Sometime in the late 1970’s, early 1980’s I saw a Sparrowhawk at Bough Beech in Kent pointed out by the late great Roy Coles. They were so scarce then and for many years if I saw one it was a red letter day. Now easily seen in Kent , virtually every day KOS

A nice way to mark 2,500 days of non-stop eBirding was to find this smart Lapland Bunting on my #Norfolk patch at Kelling Water Meadows. Even managed to show it to Moss Taylor, who I first met when he came to speak to the YOC course I attended at Sheringham 50 years ago! #birding

After work today, went back to RSPB Titchwell Marsh to see the American Golden Plover which reappeared on the Freshmarsh this pm. After missing it 3 weeks ago by a couple of minutes, nice that it hung around this time. Feisty thing, giving as good as it got with the Golden Plovers.

RIP Bill Last. Under the sometimes gruff exterior Bill had a heart of gold. It was a privilege to spend time with him at Amwell for a few years and soak up some of his birding knowledge. This was taken in January 2022 (Bill on the right). Amwell Birding Herts Bird News
