It's 2024 and the word "able-bodied" is still being used to describe non-disabled people in Paralympics coverage. Just heard it used on BBC 5 Live Sport - almost immediately after a segment on improving the language around disability. Sigh.

I wrote for @metroopinion about how my February #AccessToWork application to @dwpgovuk still hasn't been processed and how impossible it is for #disabled people to get and stay in work if this basic provision is failing so badly #AccessDenied metro.co.uk/2024/09/03/wan…

I graduated from @UCL today with MA PPE of Health. They hadn't arranged safe wheelchair access to the stage @SouthbankCentre. They knew I'm a wheelchair user. Unlike other graduands I was awarded my degree on the floor. This discrimination is emblematic of my experience there.

.Ruby-Goodley considering 'care' in the neoliberal university exploring 'anonymous care' (Stevenson, 2019) paradox of being able to say 'I care' but not for who Deeply individualised and effectively un-caring models of care permeate university (and other) spaces #cds24

This is horrible. I’m a PhD student at UCL — is this what I have to look forward to when I graduate with a Doctorate in Computer Science? Having it awarded on the floor?

I need a support group for late (late) stage PhD candidates who are desperately trying to muster the energy to finish writing the diss and defend this year. Even better if you’re also a parent. We can schedule regular zoom check ins and rant sessions bz goddamn.

🚨BREAKING NEWS🚨 Charity for Disabled children funnelling over 40% of its funds to right-wing think-tanks. Utterly shocking - an example of what happens when disability organisations aren't run by us, for us, with lived-experience at the forefront. goodlawproject.org/disabled-child…

Solidarity with Jamie Hale, who was on BBC Breakfast this morning alongside Greater Manchester Coalition of Disabled People speaking about his appalling treatment at a recent graduation ceremony. Sadly this is far from a once off - it’s deeply systemic When will institutions recognise their Equality Act obligations..?
