The apps we downloaded, decompiled, and tested for this story exploited Android’s accessibility permissions to monitor almost everything someone does on their phone. After we reached out to Google, the company suspended both apps from the Google Play store.

'The Dutch government is said to be planning to apologize for its historic role in slave trade and set up a fund for projects that aim to raise awareness about the legacy of slavery.' – apology, yes great. But just fyi 'a fund for projects' ≠ reparations. bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

What an absolute disaster.

We have stopped publishing national data on deaths in custody.

Just an ... open invitation for our prisons to become more dangerous, more lethal places--places that will INCREASE recidivism and thus make us less safe.

Start at the top of this thread to get the details but this is the key. Quality of life at the bottom of the distribution is related to the steep curve at the top - there's enough money to go around but it's being sucked up by the wealthy.

Deeply disappointing news. CARE Court is built on a foundation of coercion and detracts from the proven solutions that will actually keep people healthy, housed, and safe.

Not surprising that states that ban abortion are also weak on other aspects of women's and children's rights and social protection. It's about maintaining power and people with power can cope without a safety net. I'm confident we'd see this correlation with lots of other rights

How do US states measure up on child rights?

We gave every state a grade assessing their laws on child marriage, child labor, juvenile justice, and corporal punishment.

The results are alarming.

Pandemic-related social support made a massive difference to low-income people in the US. Poverty fell and child poverty fell in half. The number of those with health insurance rose. We know how to end poverty, we just refuse to. nytimes.com/2022/09/13/bus…

Legalizing drugs, bringing them out of the dangerous black market and into the light of regulation and safer usage, would have enormous impacts throughout the Americas, including wiping out cartels' main source of income and lowering the risk overdose death in the United States.

Human Rights Watch Officials over the weekend said 'privatization is on the table' in Jackson, MS. Water is a human right & however it proceeds, the state's human rights obligations can't be outsourced. Rights-based, sustainable investments and solutions are needed now.

That's totally cool. I like this.

I also like tax systems that ensure businesses pay their fair share of taxes so governments can fund the public infrastructure necessary to fulfill human rights.
