More on yesterday's evictions: "In progress - Mass evictions from living spaces in Calais and Grande-Synthe: 1. people will be forced to board buses or risk being arrested 2. the material will be destroyed 3. all will return in the coming days, even more precarious"

Another tragic & avoidable death. The body of a man washed up some 50km from Calais. Safe routes save lives. Deterrents don't. Instead of flying to Rwanda, James Cleverly🇬🇧 should donate to groups for the repatriation of deaths at the border. soutenir.utopia56.org/decesfrontiere…

Many of the people we work with in #France have spent years of their lives trying to regularize their stay in #Germany. They only leave when there is no hope left and then they leave German police raids behind only to face French police evictions in Calais. #safepassage

"One person has just lost his life trying to cross the Channel, another is injured and there are others missing. This morning, Darmanin came to parade in Calais to praise the merits of his safe management of crossings. Sadness and anger."

À force de banalisation des discours discriminants envers les personnes exilées au plus haut niveau de l'État, il devient courant de recevoir des menaces en tant qu'association indépendante. Nous avons porté plainte. Et surtout bonne année.

The second eviction of the year today in #Calais using dozens of CRS officers to intimidate and harass people while continuing the policies of exclusion and precarity.

"By dint of the trivialization of discriminatory speeches towards people exiled at the highest level of the State, it is becoming common to receive threats as an independent association. We filed a complaint. And above all happy new year."

A small victory in Paris last night as Utopia 56 managed to get 20 children and their families housed in emergency accommodation even though housing children in the middle of winter should never be something we have to fight for.

"The “severe cold plan” is nothing other than a vast communications operation which allows the State to abandon its duties at the sight of the first snowflakes. The right to accommodation is unconditional at all times and in all weathers."

8th Jan: Orange warning for flooding and extreme cold. Response from the prefecture this morning: - eviction from the living space from 9.00 a.m. - no buses to the first reception centers - people are taken out of emergency accommodation at 8:30 a.m. despite the -2°C displayed

"Despite the freezing cold, hundreds of exiled people have been trying to cross the Channel since last night. The action of the Ministry of the Interior continues to worsen the situation. Our teams are on the ground to respond to alerts and provide emergency humanitarian aid."

The findings of our latest report include mass deprivation of people's rights, normalised police violence and harassment, a proportional increase in border deaths and a terrifying migration landscape for 2024 - decreased rights, increased detention. drive.google.com/file/d/1SaQwQY…

In #France, despite the freezing temperatures, 100s of emergency accommodation spaces remain empty while 1000s of people sleep outside.

"Channel crossings increased by 13% compared to January 2023, or 1,335 people. The number of people who died at the border increased from 1 to 6 over the same periods. Either the State adopts a criminal policy, or its action is a blatant failure."

"Some of the 170 young people who were present at our French classes this afternoon in Paris. They all survive on the streets."

"Today, under the bridges of Calais, there is increased inventiveness to prevent people in exile from settling in a little shelter. Spoiler alert: no accommodation has been opened in return."
