An aging marine biologist inspects a giant old coral that’s fighting for its life due to anthropogenic heating.

Surrounding it are stands of recently dead and dying staghorn corals, for as far as the eye can see.

This is what mass-mortality looks like. theguardian.com/environment/20…

'Great Barrier Reef’s worst bleaching leaves giant coral graveyard'
This was entirely predictable - allowing fossil fuel pollution to continue as it has dooms coral reefs to near extinction. A quarter of marine life depends on them.

“Ghostly white” sounds almost innocuous. About half of the corals in the photo on the left are already DEAD.

Severe mass bleaching events throughout the tropics are necessarily also mass die-offs of billions of corals, and of the myriad of species that depend on them.

People are much more supportive of climate action than is perceived, Our World in Data shows.

As EU elections rapidly approach, would-be MEPs should use this data as reassurance that the question is not whether to act, but how quickly to act (spoiler: much, much faster).

When we think of climate threats to our food supply, we tend to think of heat and drought affecting imported food - as we're seeing now with e.g. olive oil and cocoa prices. But this mild wet winter has also been disastrous for many UK farmers.

After investment in cycling infrastructure, cycling is now more popular than driving in central Paris
Bikes were used for 11.2% of trips inside the city centre (up from 3% in 2010) and cars just 4.3%. Walking and public transport still the most popular.
