“It is the attitude that the next government takes to the role of parliament that will actually make the difference, however the large the majority it secures”

Excellent as ever from Hannah White on the supermajority fallacy

Better support for ministers is a common IfG refrain - but it's also a common request from ministers too, as our Ministers Reflect archive shows

Still a few general election campaign twists and turns to go….

But this type of question could be crucial if Labour win

Great blog by Alex Thomas and Dr Catherine Haddon for Institute for Government 👇

I always love the IfG but especially so when they do fascinating analysis of my Angela Rayner scoops! 😍

Really interesting piece about how she will use her role as deputy PM after my stories that she'll recreate an Office of the Deputy PM and make a cross-gov Homelessness Unit

New from me and Dr Catherine Haddon - on Angela Rayner’s potential role in government

There’s been plenty of commentary about the Starmer/Rayner relationship. But (@PronouncedAlva aside) not so much on how she will operate as deputy PM

Here’s our effort

Sensible stuff in here on Labour's thoughts about how they would rewire gov around Missions

& some promising overlap w recommendations in Institute for Government's Centre Commission

But there are opportunities not in here that a Labour gov shouldn't miss 🧵

Manifestos set out the policies a political party would deliver if it were to win a general election.

But how are manifestos written? What is the importance of manifestos in an election campaign? And how are they costed?

What this letter from Simon Case actually shows is that
- not all of the costs the PM used were calculated by the civil service
- the calculations were based on Conservative Party assumptions

So the PM’s claims during the debate remain inaccurate and misleading

Entirely predictable that this would happen (and the accompanying NSA position) -- govt should have known better than to go ahead with it and put everyone in a difficult position
