📣 Calling the police on campus 'in response to nonviolent student protest is beyond the pale, and it really undermines the standing of the university as a place of free, open, and robust dialogue and debate.”

A retaliatory, petty & despicable move by Mayor Eric Adams to shield the #NYPD from any semblance of accountability at all costs: Adams is pushing out the Chair of NYC CCRB for criticizing these decision not to fire the cops who killed #KawaskiTrawick

ALL students deserve to learn and feel safe no matter their political beliefs and religious practices. But NYU’s decision to call the NYPD in response to last night’s student encampment with Within Our Lifetime put its own community of students and faculty in harm’s way.
THREAD:
Universities, and Columbia University in particular, have a long tradition of student advocacy, where viewpoints are tested and debate is encouraged.
Columbia rushing to call the cops on their own students for demonstrating on campus betrays that legacy.

What a shameful decision to not discipline the cops involved in the killing of #KawaskiTrawick , on the eve of the five-year anniversary of his death.
Our communities are experiencing real harm at the hands of police.
