I will join Akshay Tandon on CTV News Channel around 330 EDT to discuss today's positive 🇨🇦 inflation data. Yr/yr CPI growth down to 2.5%, despite a jump in gasoline prices in July. All 3 Bank of Cda core measures also fell. Sets stage for a third rate cut on Sept 4. #cdnecon /2

Quick context for moral panic about the railway work stoppage: 1. This is a lockout not a strike. 2. Employers do this to try to spark back-to-work intervention. 3. Days lost in work stoppages Jan-May this year are down 2/3 from Jan-May 2023. 4. The world is not ending. #canlab

If you assume any imbalance between supply & demand requires cutting demand (rather than stimulating supply), this is what you get: housing investment down for 8 of 9 quarters. Shelter costs are the biggest factor in current inflation; this makes it worse not better. #cdnecon /2
