Canola: It was first bred from rapeseed cultivars of B. napus and B. rapa at the University of Manitoba by Keith Downey and Baldur Stefansson in the early 1970s. The name comes from combining Canada and Oil. Today, 31 million hectares of canola are grown worldwide.
