In some personal news, our executive director Matthew Marchetti has been trying to decipher a long range forecast and its implications on the 2024 hurricane season.

Any advice on dealing with similar long range forecasts is welcome! 🍼👶

The 2024 Hurricane Season forecast is out from the The Weather Channel here. They are calling for even more than CSU, with 24 named storms, with 11 Hurricanes, 6 being Major.

.@starlink has been a gamechanger for our emergency communications during hurricanes.

FirstNet is pretty good, but you're reliant on the state of the network. HAM radios always work, but there is a learning curve.

Starlink though? Perfection 🤘

We should expect this sort of cold at least once every few winters. A Feb 2021 event was more like a 25-50 year type cold wave. We've had lows in the teens in Houston in 13 winters since 1970, an average of once every 4-5 winters. But they come in bunches. Zero btw 1996 & 2018.

Y'all to be clear: Yes, it is going to most likely get cold next week, a hard freeze even! This looks more like the Dec 2022 event, which most managed just fine (as did the grid) than the February 2021 event which was an absolute disaster. This looks nothing like 2/21 right now.

It’s a testament to the WHOLE crew (If true and as reported) that everyone got off this aircraft safely. Managing the cabin in this sort of scenario is very difficult.
