It's a multi-faith protest. Despite the claims that the protest is an anti-Semitic hell-hole, I met plenty of Jewish students taking part who completely rejected the notion.

NOW: UCLA pro-Palestinian students set up encampment in front of Royce Hall at 4 am today. They join 20+ other campuses that set up camps across the country in huge wave of protests and solidarity.

Observation: just a few years ago, many politicians and university administrators vigorously defended the free speech rights of white supremacists and homophobes to speak/protest on campuses and refused the safety concerns of BIPOC & queer students.

As a sheer tactical matter, mass arrests of the protesters seems to be having the opposite of its intended effect.

One underreported element of these protests is that many of them are occurring at schools with ostensibly the best journalism programs/schools in the country: USC, UT Austin, Emerson, UNC, Columbia, etc.

I organized many, many demonstrations at UTexas while studying there 20 years ago.

We camped out on the South Mall several times.

We held huge marches in this very location (it was still a working road, not a plaza). Never that I can remember was DPS called in like this.
