Are you all still interested in learning the networking fundamentals? STP, OSPF, BGP, etc? I'm contemplating if there's still interest in doing so and if should spend my time blogging about these. Or are there already enough resources?

I wanted to show something with autoneg in CML, but seems the Linux nodes don't support autoneg?

My best gues is this is because it's a VM and autoneg is in the PHY?

Tried with both Ubuntu and Alpine.

If I asked you how a 1000BASE-T PHY decides to bring a link down, what would you respond? If you followed along in my series, in this post I describe the factors the PHY take into consideration. Energy detect, MSE, FCS, are some of the factors.

I was configuring in my and virtual lab. Everything seemed OK at first, but I could only ping the gateway intermittently. Why is that?

Rather than a quick fix, I wrote about what I did to TS it.

Getting legitimate practice exams before you take an exam has always been a challenge. Happy to see LearningatCisco adding practice exams to Cisco U. I could see the following in my account:

- CCNA
- ENARSI
- ENCOR
- SCOR
- CLCOR
- DEVCOR
- DevNet Associate
- CyberOps Associate

9 years! They went by so fast!

When I joined, we were less than 20 people and revenue of around 5M EUR. Now we've passed 100 employees and revenue of around 65M EUR.

My favourite part is all my amazing colleagues. Not only the tech people, but management, HR, sales, pre sales.

One of the best things with writing a blog, is when you get a comment that is not only technically accurate, but pleasant. I received this excellent comment from Eric (hi TracketPacer) on auto negotation in 1000BASE-T. You have to support it, but optional to run it.

One nice thing of running a virtual lab is I can easily insert my sniffer into all the subnets I want to. I can see packets every step of the way.

Sometimes people ask 'what's the best way to troubleshoot X', where X is a protocol or feature, as if troubleshooting X was a separate skill.

This line of thought is somewhat flawed. Learn X, get experienced with X, then you'll know how to troubleshoot X.

Next post in the 1000BASE-T series. This time I cover auto negotiation. What goes on behind the scene? What is a FLP?

Did you know that auto negotiation is mandatory in 1000BASE-T? Why is that? That's one of the things covered in this post.

Idea for an upcoming blog post. Cover some of the details of ICMP that can be used for troubleshooting that aren't that well known.

What do you think?

Get ready for a deep dive! People normally don't cover to this level. In this post, I show you concepts of 1000BASE-T you've probably never heard of. Trellis encoding, Viterbi decoding, scramblers and descramblers. Take a look!

Saw this interesting discussion on Reddit. Have you run into this as well?

The answer is obviously not to start enabling weak ciphers. It seems Paramiko is lagging behind? Which is understandable, but still a serious issue, and one of the challenges of with OSS.

Had some issues adding additional vNICs to my Nexus9000v in beyond the initial six NICs. Turns out that vCenter wanted to add E1000E, while all the other NICs were E1000. Changing the type and reloading the device made the NIC appear. Hopefully saves someone else some TS.

Working on a blog post about vPC in and Whether you're fond of vPC or not, it's something you need to know if you are working on NX-OS.
