Hotel room atop Grey's Monument conceived by Tatzu Nishi & commissioned by @locusplus for EAST '08, a Newcastle/Gateshead cultural programme. The idea was guests could book B&B 40m up with Earl Grey. Graphic never became reality but it was a talking point in 2008 NewcastleGateshead Initiative

Cultured. North East and The QT... a short 🧵 As you may have already seen/heard via social media and associated sources, we (@SamWonfor and David Whetstone) are sad to report that last week's edition of The QT will be the last.

If velodrome tactics were transferred to athletics, sprinters would crawl along while eyeing each other up for 90m before tearing 10m to the line. Or else they’d follow a moped… #OlympicGames

This was a real spectacle! I’m in awe of the brave people who are being shrinkwrapped! 🫣 Definitely recommend a visit to this at Great North Museum: Hancock and the rest of the Novum Festival festival!

I’m really enjoying my trawl through the archives of The QT to bring you our Greatest Hits. Here is our main story from Feb 14. It was an article prompted by columnist Bob Hudson, who talked about councils caught in the “classic trap of responsibility without power”.

Nice to see the grave of Eileen Blair (nee O'Shaughnessy, of South Shields, aka Mrs 'George Orwell' or 'Pig' to uni friends) in St Andrew's & #Jesmond Cemetery is well tended. The absorbing biography by sylvia topp shows she was a star to whom Orwell owed perhaps everything.

We're excited to have Gordon Dalton back at VARC next week, part of the #fullcircle programme. Gordon came to VARC in 2023 and made a stunning collection of paintings. Here is a recent one, Two Ships, Acrylic on canvas, 25.5 x 30.5cm, 2024
