1/2 The end of an exciting & historic day Westminster Abbey. 1. I gave Choir of Westminster Abbey choristers a well-deserved weekend off. Today (for the 1st time) all three services were sung by the Lay Vicars + 6 sopranos. Haydn Te Deum, Poulenc Mass, Messiaen & 3 mvts of Rachmaninoff Vespers. A feast!

Happy 80th birthday to the great Philip Moore! At Westminster Abbey Evensong we sang his 'Hear my prayer, O heavenly Father.' It sets words by Charles Dickens, who is buried in Poets' Corner. Happy Birthday, Philip, and thank you for so many decades enriching the British Choral Tradition.

Our Organ Scholar Carolyn Craig will be giving a recital in the Abbey at 5pm on Sunday, playing music by Demessieux, Byrd and Elgar.
