It is #WorldMalariaDay , Malaria is the cause of 249 million clinical cases and 608,000 deaths globally. The WHO African Region reports the highest-burden with over 94% of cases and 580,000 deaths. In 2023 alone Malawi reported 6.4 million malaria cases woth a total of 1670 deaths.
It was this in 2019 that Malawi launched the #malaria vaccine. Reflections ahead of the #WorldMalariaDay . The vaccine has reduced severe malaria & child deaths in #Malawi in the 4 years of pilot intros with nearly 2 million children reached. #VaccinesWork ! Thank you Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance. 👏🏾
At the ongoing #ICPPA2024 , the message is clear: we must leverage person-centred integrated service delivery to address the NCDs burden in Africa. WHO African Region, we continue working with partners to support countries strengthen health systems towards effective NCDs service delivery.
