Should we be looking at using alternative materials to plastics in fishing gear? Would you be willing to pay more for seafood caught this way? Please share you views with us! shorturl.at/IITbz #PlasticFreeFishing #FISP Marine Institute Isles of Scilly IFCA Defra UK

📢 Job opportunity to join our amazing Team plymouth.ac.uk/research/appli… at University of Plymouth We are looking for someone to support our Fish, Elasmobranch and crustacean tagging and tracking research, and our underwater video (ROV,BRUV,Pelagicam,Towed) #MPA monitoring work 🦈🐟🦀🎣

My 7th year of Scilly Pelagics & it’s not often I’ve been left speechless. For several minutes this evening most of the boat stood in silence as 100+ bluefin tuna formed a frenzying vortex alongside us. The hordes of rare & scarce seabirds aside… this was special!! 🐟🐟🐟

Fun day promoting new paper - Dr Thomas Stamp using historical ecology - 1871 French fishing map and acoustic telemetry to show regenerative effects of farm and value to commercially valuable lobsters 🦞 and crabs 🦀 interview on bbc Spotlight tonight 🦀 bbc.com/news/articles/…

🔔Our new paper combines old maps with new tracking tech applied to crustaceans 🦞 🌟Together they highlight the regenerative potential of mussel farms - that can enhance seabed & benefit commercially valuable species 📖 Listen below or read the paper: tinyurl.com/Restorative-mu…

Here we use a combination of approaches (#SDM #acoustictelemetry #SIA) to demonstrate that longline mussel farming can physically augment and improve seabed habitat to support commercially important crustacean populations in otherwise unsuitable habitat. 3/3
