If you haven't already, I urge you to read Benno Weiner's Los Angeles Review of Books of Tahir Hamut Izgil's WAITING TO BE ARRESTED AT NIGHT (trans by Joshua L. Freeman). A wonderful summary and contextualization of perhaps the most important work on contemporary Asia this year.
I was very moved today to learn that Tahir H. Izgil's memoir 𝘞𝘢𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘉𝘦 𝘈𝘳𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘢𝘵 𝘕𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵, in my English translation, is a finalist for the National Book Critics Circle's John Leonard Prize, for the best first book in any genre. publishersweekly.com/pw/by-topic/in…
