Who misses course handbooks? I’ve been pondering on them recently. I still have loads of mine from my UG years. For me there was no greater ease then digging in your bag for them & having a list of readings & prompts to hand. Is a paperless world really inclusive & accessible?

Yday I came to Newcastle to give a presentation to staff in Northumbria’s humanities department on disability in higher education and creating inclusive environments. I leave crushing hard on the original 1930s staircase of my premier inn hotel.

I’m drinking a cuppa tea waiting for my archive in Durham to open &watching lots of graduates & their families queuing to enter the cathedral. All I can think about is how they’re missing out on a great photo opportunity by not posing with this rare penfold Victorian postbox

I dearly love that some very very senior has ‘replied all’ to a university email. As I finish my resit marking I’m currently wondering what all those people who reply to ‘reply all’ emails are currently doing to avoid being the first person to reply to this reply all email.

I don’t understand why they think this such a threat. I’m happy to pay more tax for better services. I’ve been waiting for an operation on the urgent list since November. I would much have a functioning NHS, education and social services for all then continue this downward spiral

#twitterstorians they’re are so many brilliant c19th working-class autobiographies I’m feeling a bit overwhelmed! So if you had to choose one that discusses marriage for a 2nd gender history module which one would you pick?

Just call me the llama whisperer. I said ‘hello’ to this little chappy &they wandered over to me asking for a head stroke. As I’m at a writing retreat I tried asking them if think my book will be done soon &they had no answers. Sooooo we are both a bit clueless in our happy state

I’m truly disgusted in what is happening at the moment. I’m ashamed to be English. But none of this should be surprising given how we’ve lived in a country stocked by hatred&division & where austerity is a political choice. Britain is—& has always been- richer with diversity.

Have any #twitterstorians written or read anything about how history in HE values teaching and helps with the development of our lecturer-teacher identities. Writing a point on how we could see more teaching stuff in academic journals & wondered if there’s some good stuff I use.

Is there any better writing joy then getting chapter comments that say ‘excellent contribution… basically a hit’ &then reading the in-text comments & thinking I can do this 💪🏻 (I realise that this is super boastful but after two of the hardest R&Rs of my life this is nice!)

I absolutely adored this novel and feel like it’s a book I’m going to think about a lot. It’s partially set during the pandemic but it’s not dystopian lit. It’s quiet and provides the backdrop to a mother telling her story about the summer she dated an actor. #amreading
