Absolutely bonkers to have an ITALIAN Pied Flycatcher breeding in one of the boxes at Brook Wood! Only 2 records of 🇮🇹 pieds seen in 🇬🇧 ever. She's happily sitting on a clutch of 7 eggs, monitored for BTO #NRS. EURING

Beautiful morning on Holne Common surveying for Dartmoor's Dynamic Landscapes. Breeding Snipe in the mires, Wheatear amongst the boulders and Whinchat, Lesser Redpoll and Yellowhammer singing from the hawthorns. Great patch of habitat! #dartmoor

Seems this really was the very last Willow Tit in eastern England. 2024 is likely the first time in 10,000 yrs that this huge swathe of England from the Humber to Kent to the Isle of Wight doesn't hear a Willow Tit song. Extinction comes fast. They used to be in my garden.

Raft Recovery: CW4 black on yellow Darvic identified using @spypointcamera on 18/07/20224 @southstaffswater Blithfield Reservoir. The bird was originally ringed London Wildlife Trust Walthamstow Wetlands by southern Ringing Group in 2022 as a chick, which is a distance of 91 miles.

On 19/6/24 Caroline Pickett photographed an adult Curlew Sandpiper at the Gann Estuary with black leg flag MAB. Took some detective work, but turns out she was ringed on 27/11/22 at Puthalam Saltpan - at the southern tip of India! Astonishing that it should end up in Pembs.

A great week visiting Lundy Bird Observatory to help with some seabird monitoring. Finding a Melodious Warbler (lifer), ringing shearwaters underneath the Milky Way and seeing coastal moths was special. A cracking island and even better people, will definitely be back #obsenvy
