We have acquired this beautiful #malachite brooch with a silver mount. It was sold through Edwin Bradford's shop in #Torquay . He took over James Braham's business at 8 Strand in 1849 and the hallmarks on this brooch suggest it was made in that year in #Birmingham . #MarbleArtisans

Preparing a presentation (for an evening in Cullompton next week) is always a good reminder of the treasures we hold which are rarely seen. Among the records of the Devon Quarter Sessions is a large series of 19th century watercolour paintings of the county's bridges.

This bowl crafted from copper was made by John Pearson in 1893 and owned by Stanhope Forbes, a founding member of the Newlyn School of Painters.

The design is made using repoussé, a way of decorating metals by hammering the material from the inside to create patterns.
