It’s sad that there is a perfect form of protest that addresses everything the right way and solves the problems being protested and is serious without being threatening and peaceful without being frivolous, but no one is allowed to know what it is :(

This thread is a prime example of the misleading ways that antisemitism is often reported. I can tell you as EIC of Jewish Currents that often we look into a high-profile antisemitic occurrence and it falls apart under scrutiny. Most of the time, no one corrects the record.

An actual journalist goes to the Columbia Gaza solidarity camp and says what he saw. A good thread for those still unclear. (Also I love the autocorrect error here suggesting they’re protesting, rather than protecting, students with nut allergies.)

I cannot stop thinking about the choice to point guns at students who spent their entire childhoods training to survive too frequent school shootings and who are out protesting because students half way across the world are being murdered

America hates its kids so fucking much

“When students vote overwhelmingly for divestment and administrators ignore them, the unmistakable conclusion is that the development of students’ critical thinking is an inconvenience to the institution, not its primary purpose.”

I transcribed the first ~3 minutes of Mumia Abu-Jamal’s call from prison with the students of the CUNY Gaza solidarity encampment. The imprisoned journalist and former Black Panther has been jailed for over 42 of his 70 years.

Some outstanding letters of protest here from NYU (New York University) faculty to the President and Provost, but the below from Steven Hahn is pure 🔥 🔥 🔥 : facultyforpalestine.education/statements/fac…

Those Christian Zionists talking weird shit about 'campus antisemitism'--Greg Abbott and Josh Hawley and them--I was taught a very special word to describe them when I was growing up and it was understood to be the most withering insult of all: the goyim.

I freely admit that some students’ behaviour gets on my nerves. I don’t think every protest is right or done well.

I hope I never show the kind of casual, general contempt for students articulating their convictions some faculty senior to me are letting slip at a dangerous time.

Student protestors: the university has an ethical responsibility to oppose genocide! Boycott & divest from Israel!

University leaders: suspend the students, arrest the faculty, burn this place to the ground!!!!

Disturbing how The New York Times chooses to amplify the antisemitism of individual isolated students rather than report how many of the protests are Jewish and are led by Jewish organizations who don’t want a genocide to happen under their name…

'They still have to serve the state, but they’re linked by contract—not by blood.'

Excellent preliminary analysis on the response to student encampments from university administrations and cops, + the resonances and differences between '68 and now nplusonemag.com/online-only/on…

Almost missed the fact that on Tuesday, along with the funding package sending billions more in military aid to Israel, the Senate reauthorized the Elie Wiesel Genocide and Atrocities Prevention Act, 'prioritizing prevention of mass violence.' What a farce.

what we will inevitably hear is that the police response was “professional.” this is because policing is *violence work.* it requires dehumanization to be “professional.” This runs counter to every beautiful thing we do in the university

The instrumentalist, cynical deployment of figural “Jewishness” is just out in the open now: two non-Jewish lawmakers want an “antisemitism” thought-police to monitor elite universities, presumably against the left.

Cornell University is wrong to suspend our talented and thoughtful students, for their free expression. During the university’s Freedom of Expression theme year, no less!

Faculty, staff & students insist that the administration change course & repair this, now. ⏱️
