Something I’ve been asked but have no expense with (and this really, really is for someone else):

What’s it like to transition from a senior industrial scientific role to laboratory reagent/equipment sales?

Biotech is an expensive, high-stakes game of chasing inflections.

The most successful teams start with those milestones in mind and work backwards from there: milestone > data package > experiments (iterate)

1/n Can LLMs perform scientific research? And, can they do so while enhancing key scientific values including transparency, traceability & verifiability? Check out our preprint on the 'data-to-paper' platform. w the amazing Tal Ifargan Lukas Hafner arxiv.org/abs/2404.17605

I wish I heard this George Church (george church) podcast episode when I was a grad student!
1. You can change the world, as long as you don't care who gets credit.
2. The idea is not to never fail, it is to fail a million times a day.
3. Embrace the outlier!

GLP-1 drug rides again.......
Among 51 people with metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASH, MASLD) with HIV, 15 (29%) had complete resolution and 30 (58%) had >30% reduction of liver fat

We added new panelists since I last posted about this. I am looking forward to moderating a panel at SynBioBeta on how unique funding models can support research that falls outside the academic and for-profit realms.

I'll be talking to seemay chou from ArcadiaScience,

Young scientists regularly ask me for career advice. Academia or industry? Big company or startup? US or Europe?  Good scientists in AI disciplines are fortunate to have many choices. But choosing can be stressful. I always give the same advice. 1/10

Always handy to have a negative strip of Western blot that you can use four times in the same figure!

One of the corresponding authors is a Nobel Prize winner Stanford University, the other one works Scripps Research.

I really wonder about standalone software firms

Some areas like LIMS etc seem to do quite well

Some areas like selling analysis seem to really struggle

I feel like many life scientists don’t budget for software so many analyses software have to be bundled in with reagents
