it could chase a gazelle for days
until the gazelle, astonished
that pursuit feels so intimate,
falls into a heap of language.

Write a poem

Jamiroquai is walking ahead of you. You rush up to Jamiroquai & knock his big hat off his head. His big hat tumbleweeds down the empty street. From the recesses of Jamiroquai’s big hat, a new world spews forth, a world so full of hidden truths that nothing is not a hidden truth.

You carry a burning ladder through a parade of butchers, all clad in bloody aprons, all holding thick cleavers as big as axes, holding the burning ladder by its feet, the raging flames flickering high above your head.

You sincerely compliment a cool lamp.

You must explain the difference between grunge & shoegaze to a baby horse & the baby horse must fully understand this difference or you will both receive some kind of terrible but ambiguous punishment from the mountains.

At the coffeeshop in the basement
of the abandoned hospital
you order a Bob Barker-flavored
oatmeal latte.

You climb a mountain. As you reach the summit, the ground shakes, the earth splits open. It’s a volcano. It’s erupting. From the split earth, the greatest symphony you’ve ever heard pours out of the earth, in the form of galloping horses, scavenger birds, & prayers.

At a yardsale, you find a bucket full of clout. It’s priced at $10. You offer the person $5. They decline.

You don’t buy anything. You drive to the abandoned carousel. You sit atop a graffiti-covered giraffe. You think about how much you wish you’d bought that bucket of clout.

You cut the grass with a calendar.
