A wonderful opportunity to remind people that a lot of “residency” #MedEd is based on William Halstead Who was a straight, single (when training) white guy who did a WHOLE BUNCH OF DRUGS (cocaine & morphine) to be able to exist within the model of - lengthy training - pyramidal

Phillip Dawson You're confusing means and medians. Averages are affected by outliers. For example say you have 100 teachers in your faculty. 95 of them get the max score of 5. The others get 2. The average is ((95 *5) + (5*2))/100 = 4.85. 95% are above average.

Great to read the new publication with Dr Joanna Tai as one of the co-authors. Great to have more research about WIL placements and near-peer mentoring. doi.org/10.1186/s12909…

#HigherEd aims to educate diverse and unique professionals, but assessment relies upon standardisation. Our new study with Mollie Dollinger and Rachel Finneran explores the lived tensions in how diverse students must 'fit in the box' of assessment 📦 tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…

Kane Murdoch This sounds like a wonderful idea. I’m afraid we already know the solutions but lack the opportunities to implement these ideas systematically in higher ed. I’m thinking of flexible assessment à la Prof Sam Elkington, digital storytelling assessment à la Dr Pranit Anand SFHEA, MACS, FHERDSA

Taking what isn’t yours to create something new without giving credit, having permission, or considering the impact on others isn’t innovation or acting in the spirit of open. At the least it’s theft, at the worst, It’s colonization. Heather M. Ross 🇺🇦 mctoonish.com/blog/?p=1908

Priya Khanna Chris Roberts Derek Louey feel like a 🐟 in 💦 w/ this Q bc high stakes MCQ assessmt is all I’ve ever known in 🇺🇸 To motivate learning ‘a bunch of stuff’ (assuming it’s relevant), this has most value in UME before transition to clinical care. ROI from driving memorization of facts diminishes thereafter

Thanks Jo. Good to think about. Vulnerability is easier for some than others. How much ‘right’ do readers have to all this detail? Has to balance what the author is comfortable telling and what contributes to judging the quality of the work. Not a place for ‘tickboxes’
