UG5 #bashh2024 postal HIV & STS testing. We know increasing the reactivity cut-off (RL) improves PPV. Data from Devon Sexual Health shows only 1 true HIV+ in 40 reactive tests (true + RL 1080, false+ RL 1-63, most <20). No false+ STS. Outcome: reassure if low risk + RL <10

UG5 #bashh2024 LARC uptake post-abortion in Edinburgh. Abortions increased in 2022, incl multiple. 38% intended to start LARC 20% did. If rpt abortion 43% intended but only 19% did! Are there barriers to access? Or ppl saying they want LARC as they think it's the 'right' answer?

Next UG #bashh2024 abstract on sustainability & reintroducing the metal speculum in Brighton! BSUH NHS already use reusable suture packs. Metal specula:
- reduced costs
- 22% less carbon footprint (86% if 100% use)
- positive staff feedback, easier to find Cx, more sizes needed

Undergraduate abstract 3! Attitudes towards HIV in 55 care homes in Brighton & Hove. Less knowledge for non-clinicak staff & those who'd been in role for longer, 29% correct about U=U, attitudes mainly positive but 45% not comfortable taking bloods!

Next up in the undergraduate #bashh2024 is work on trans healthcare at the Onyx clinic in Manchester! 45% described sexual assault) & 20% were sex workers (mainly trans female) - a group with high levels of vulnerability - 100% had experienced domestic violence.

So heartening to see undergraduates presenting at #bashh2024 ❤️
1st is ALT in ppl with HBV on PrEP. 3.2% hepatic flares driven by 2 ppl, both clinically well with Hx excess alcohol. Suboptimal daily PrEP use assoc with higher HBV DNA (83% suppressed vs 100% with optimal use)
