I’m lucky to have 2 Aunts still living. 1 on Dads side, 1 on Mom’s side. They evoke memories of … spaghetti 🍝, sitting in church passing candy, pound cake, and lots of hugs. I’m going to text them tonight just to tell them that I love them. Who do you owe a check-in? 🤔

That Feeling When you’re on a mission to tell anyone who will listen: more Black and Brown Drs and scientists will save more lives, make the science more impactful, and reduce healthcare disparities. Not just my opinion, the evidence says so. #StayOnMission

Couldn't agree more, Kenneth Connell MD PhD FACP FRCP FACC 👨🏾‍⚕️🇧🇧 . SDOH factors are not only critically important for the onset & natural history of CHF, but play a major role in the multiple readmissions that we see so often in pts afflicted with CHF. We need to pay more attention to it. This is a great start!

I spent so much time walking “down the hill” as an undergrad Howard University to my fav study place (Med-Dent library) or dinner spot (HUH cafeteria). All these years later, I relish any opportunity to walk “up the hill” from #HUHospital to soak up the atmosphere of this great university

Mom found my 9th grade Bio. Quiz. Instructions were to write all the facts we remember about the 🫀. While the teacher admonished me for being “Brief,” he had to admit it was “A” level work. Among the gems dropped: “the heart has 2 systems, arterial & venous.” I was on my way! 😂

Any Academic Medical Ctr that invites me to give Grand Rounds should know that one of my requirements is to have an open Q & A with trainees. Truly enjoyed my time with these Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine and CWRU School of Medicine students.

Great visit to my old stomping grounds The Ohio State University College of Medicine to deliver the 8th annual “Last Lecture.” A highlight: a fireside chat with students. Look closely, I am flanked by 2 previous National Medical Association Presidents! A moving session for all. #BlackMenInMedicine #BlackWomenInMedicine

If you knew that your next lecture would be your last, what would you say? My lecture: to truly help our pts, the correct Rx, the perfectly placed stent, the compassionate bedside manner is not enough. Drs must be activists ✊🏾 to mitigate #SDOH & racial healthcare disparities.

One of the highest honors given to me by The Ohio State University College of Medicine was the creation of the “Dr Quinn Capers Award”. Given annually to the IM resident who most exemplifies “ a spirit of enhancing diversity and mitigating racism in medicine.” These ladies are the last 5 winners. #Pride #Legacy
