It is wishful thinking to believe that U.S. extremism is some passing fad, columnist Edward Alden argues. foreignpolicy.com/2024/02/13/us-…

Cato just published my paper about parole sponsorship. It's a huge success. Illegal migration was cumulatively down in July for the affected countries 90% from their peak months. As of July 2023, 316K were admitted, but ~1.7 million apps are pending... cato.org/briefing-paper…

Despite June’s drop in border encounters, the illegal economy nurtured by American migration deterrence will live on, and American policy will keep funding the bad guys, says Eduardo Porter bloomberg.com/opinion/articl… via Bloomberg Opinion

'Since 2020, Vancouver and Toronto have seen the largest high-tech job growth in North America, outpacing Austin, Seattle and every other U.S. city.'

Now Canada's taking our top talent.

And we're pushing that talent out the door.

The danger of a major policy change is that, in correcting for past errors, governments commit the opposite ones. The Biden administration is in danger of doing just that with its ambitious new industrial policy, Edward Alden writes. buff.ly/3PlHt1u

Biden’s industrial policy is a historic economic transformation for the United States. But he needs to figure out where the rest of the world fits in. My latest: foreignpolicy.com/2023/06/22/bid…

Huge thanks to Tess Turner for her help on this project (including reading a lot of 10-Ks).

This is I think the one chart that explains it all -- big Pharma gets most of its revenue from the U.S. but reports almost all its profit abroad.

My full written testimony on pharmaceutical tax avoidance and the 'Pharma' Tax Cuts and 'Irish' Jobs Act.

Includes a set of specific policy recommendations that I didn't have time to spell out in detail in the actual hearing.

No, the goal is to make asylum available to more of those in need through an orderly process. The “right to asylum” as it currently operates just enriches smugglers and offers little protection to those who need it most.

This from ⁦Andrew Selee⁩ is one of the best things I’ve seen on the Biden strategy for trying to restore some order and fairness in immigration and asylum claims after Title 42 is lifted. migrationpolicy.org/news/regional-…
