The endangered Bogong Moths are only 2.5cm long and weight a third of a gram. Every year, they migrate up to 1,000km to Australia's alpine zone for the summer, before returning back to their breeding grounds #scienceiseverywhere #3RRRFM #science

In 2017-2019, the Bogong Moth population collapsed. In the last few years, they have come back a little bit but they are still critically low. We need to bring their numbers back for their role in the ecosystem #scienceiseverywhere #3RRRFM #science

The drought in 2017 was the cause for their decline in numbers. As our climate rapidly shifts, we’re going to see so many changes to species and our ecosystems #scienceiseverywhere #3RRRFM #science

The critically endangered Mountain Pygmy-possums wake up hungry from a hibernation period in the alpine zone every year. The Bogong Moths are a key food source for the possums #scienceiseverywhere #3RRRFM #science

When the Bogong Moths had a decline in population, this had a direct impact on the Mountain Pygmy-possums and their numbers #scienceiseverywhere #3RRRFM #science

Keep an eye out: if you see a Bogong Moth, take a photo and upload it to Zoos Victoria's Moth Tracker website. This will help scientists understand if the moths will make it to the mountains this year. Check it out here: zoo.org.au/moth-tracker/ #scienceiseverywhere #science

Lucky last! We’re joined by Dr Dee Ninis, Earthquake Geologist at the Seismology Research Centre and Monash University (and long-time Einstein A Go Go listener!) #scienceiseverywhere #3RRRFM #science

Earthquakes are caused by a build up of stress in the crust. The stress is often then released in a fault line #scienceiseverywhere #3RRRFM #science

Scientists are looking at how mining, fracking and other operations can cause stress to the crust #scienceiseverywhere #3RRRFM #science

Whilst we don’t have plate boundaries, Australia is sitting on a plate made up of minor connecting points that can still experience earthquakes #scienceiseverywhere #3RRRFM #science

Einstein A Go Go (@einstein_agogo) 's Twitter Profile Photo

A big question scientists want to know: is mining near or on minor fault lines causing earthquakes or are the minor fault lines causing the earthquakes on their own? #scienceiseverywhere #3RRRFM #science

Ongoing aftershock sequences are very common, even in Australia. We actually can get 30-40 earthquakes in a week #scienceiseverywhere #3RRRFM #science
